Nicephore Niepce
A. Nicephore Niepce (pictured right) was born on March 7, 1765. He is known as one of the inventors of photography, and is noted for producing the world's first photograph in 1826.
B. He took a picture of a courtyard from an upstairs window (View from the Window at Le Gras, 1826, seen above, left).
C. This photograph was important because it is the first photograph ever taken.
D. It was taken at his estate, Le Gras.
E. Nicephore Niepce took 8 hours to make the exposure.
F. This famous photo was taken in 1826.
G. It is housed at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas.
